So, what should a good Botox course look like?
CPD Accreditation
Firstly, any training provider should be CPD accredited. This means that the trainer has met stringent criteria to demonstrate quality and integrity when it comes to practising and teaching, and has sufficient experience to teach Botox courses for beginners.
Types of Training
Secondly, there should be a mixture or theoretical (written, and/or video based) learning, as well as in person teaching, training and guidance with practical assessment. The best aesthetics academies and trainers will offer as much hands on teaching, observation, shadowing and follow up support as you need, as this demonstrates the trainer is diligent about ensuring students feel fully competent and confident when they go out into the world to practise.
Prescribing for Botox
Another factor to help you decide whether any Botox course is actually a quality Botox course, is to check if the course mentions guidance on accessing a prescriber, and offers advice on how this works.
Practitioners Own Results
Always be sure to check your training academy’s own portfolio of clients’ treatments and results. The best trainers will be those who are active practitioners as well as teachers, and their patients’ results will be a strong indication of the quality of their practise and teaching.
Live Models
This may sound obvious, but make sure your course offers you access to live models throughout your training! Some courses will enable you to bring your own models to the course, however no reputable course will allow you to finish without having injected multiple live patients and having thoroughly assessed your technique and ability.
Ask Questions
You may have many questions, from when you started thinking about getting into anti-wrinkle treatments, to during your course and even after you receive your qualification to inject Botox. Questions are normal when you are doing something new and/or changing careers, and you are right to ask them! After all, the more information you have, the better informed and engaged you are and the more you will be able to make decisions with confidence. A good trainer in Botox will never be reluctant to answer your questions whatever they may be, and to spend time sharing guidance and information with you. If you are feeling like someone is more interested in taking your money than spending time talking through concerns and questions with you, this is not a sign of a good Botox course provider.
The Price
Lastly, as the old adage goes, if something seems like it’s too good to be true, it probably is! If a trainer is reputable, they will have invested a significant portion of time and money into their own training and qualifications, their aesthetics practise, gaining accreditation, and on countless other costs such as insurance, premises, products and so on. A course in Botox is an investment that you do not want to try to do as cheaply as possible – this will likely not be quality training, and will not equip you to practise safely, profitably or in an approved way. Lastly, as these academies are probably just interested in your money, you are unlikely to be offered ongoing support once the training is complete, which means you may lack confidence and even more out of pocket in the long run.
